Moving Checklist ready? Get yours now.

While moving date is near and closely approaching, it is best to have a moving checklist. This practice will help you prepare and alleviate some of the stress of moving.

SORT & PURGE – Go through every room of your house and decide what you  would like to keep and what you can get rid of. Think about whether any items will require special packing.

BUY SUPPLIES – Order boxes and other supplies such as tape, bubble wrap, and permanent markers. Do not forget to order specialty containers, such as dish barrels or wardrobe boxes. Add these supplies to your moving checklist.

USE IT OR LOSE IT – Start using up things that you don’t want to move, like frozen or perishable foods and cleaning supplies.

LABEL BOXES – Clearly label and each box with its contents and the room it is destined for. Pack and label “essentials” boxes of items you will need right away. Mark any boxes that are fragile.

DO A CHANGE OF ADDRESS – Go to your local post office and fill out a change of address form, or do it online at usps.gov

NOTIFY IMPORTANT PARTIES – Alert the following of your move: banks, power, gas, trash, water, your employer’s human resources department, magazine and newspapers you subscribe to, credit cards, insurance companies and internet/cable companies.

ARRANGE TO BE OFF WORK ON MOVING DAY – Notify your office that you plan to supervise the move and therefore need the day off.

FINISH PACKING – Aim to finish your general packing a few days before your moving date. Then pack suitcases for everyone in the family with enough clothes to wear for a few days.

MOVING MAJOR APPLIANCES – If your refrigerator is moving with you, make sure to empty, clean, and defrost it at least 24 hours before moving day. Also, refrain from doing laundry 72hrs prior to your moving date.

MOVERS – Reconfirm the moving company’s arrival time. If you have not already, arranged to pay your mover with a credit card or get cash for payment. Do not forget that refreshments are always appreciated.

Don’t forget to check things off of your moving checklist as you go to make this process smoother.
